During his entire 20 year tenure with the NYPD, he served in many assignments in all five boroughs of New York City including uniformed street cop, undercover officer and as a Detective in the elite Special Investigating Unit featured in the film "The French Connection." He retired from police service in 1981 in order to devote himself full time to the art of karate. Today Scaglione presides over eighteen Shorin-Ryu karate schools throughout the US and the world (www.shorinryu.com)
Seminar Objectives:
to make you more aware of your environment
how to spot and avoid potentially dangerous situations
and if you cannot avoid them, how to deal with them
The seminar is NOT designed to make you paranoid or to make you feel vulnerable
Think positive everything we say you should know that you CAN do it Yes I CAN!
Assault Prevention:
There are a host of potentially dangerous assault prevention situations and scenarios this seminar will focus on these. We have put together a handout from our own experience and research relating to specific situations which we use in the seminar. The handout is yours to keep.
Self-Defense:
We will also touch on some methods of self-defense. Naturally to be proficient one needs to practice. Our Shorin-Ryu Okinawan style of karate incorporates the use of traditional karate in real life self defense situations which specific techniques to use, when.
The best thing to do is to avoid the dangerous situation at all costs if you can. If you are attacked and have to defend yourself there is no more effective way to respond than traditional Okinawan karate. That is what it was designed to be used for to handle life and death situations. It has nothing to do with tournaments or sports it is the most effective form of self-defense that is what we teach here.
Seminar Format -- 2 parts:
Hanshi Robert Scaglione will impart some basic information from his experience
We ask the seminar participants to use the handouts and to provide examples, ask questions and share experiences so that we can all learn from it.
Naturally we cant cover everything in one relatively short seminar. We do cover the self-defense aspects in detail in our karate classes and you are all welcome to come and train karate with us anyone can learn karate!
