August 17, 2008: Belt Testing

About thirty-five Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu deshi showed up at the Cocoa Beach Dojo today, Sunday August 17th for our bi-annual belt testing, consisting of four hours of karate.

Arigato to the following black belts for assisting with the test: Sensei Tom DuJardin, Sensei Kurt Tezel (Shihan, Merritt Island Dojo); Sempai Connie Rutkowski; Sempai Joe Motro; Sempai Carla Eddy (Cocoa YMCA Dojo) Sempai Trevor Tezel.

Arigato to the following deshi were not testing but showed up to support those testing: Ik-kyu’s: Kathleen Holland, DJ Johnson (Cocoa YMCA Dojo), Michael Motro; Ni-kyu’s: Michael Adams, Sarah Parker and Joshua Adams; Yon-kyu’s: Mark Mariani and Anthony Clarke. A special congratulations to DJ Johnson, aged 17, who did a breaking demonstration with four boards, a personal best.

    Congratulations to our sister Brevard Dojo: fifteen Suntree YMCA Dojo deshi were promoted by Shihan Tamir last Sunday; on Tuesday Hanshi is conducting a white belt test at his Dojo in Viera – the explosion in the number of students signing up for karate training at Hanshi’s Dojo has resulted in Hanshi adding a second training room to accommodate all of his new students; and on August 30th the Cocoa YMCA Dojo will be conducting their belt testing under Sensei Ken Oscarson. Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate is alive and well and training hard in Central Florida!

    Next week we welcome Mr.Ron Ballin, Sho-Dan, & Sempai Sam Suzuki-Ik-Kyu, from the NYC Hombu Dojo-under Kyoshi Mackay, who will be training with Hanshi at his Viera Rec Center Dojo for the Thurs 21 Aug-6:30pm & Sat 23 Aug-10am training; and on Friday Aug 22 at the Cocoa Beach Dojo’s 6pm class. All are encouraged to attend. Keep training.
