February 17, 2008: Brevard County Belt Testing

The Cocoa Beach Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate School today (Sunday Feb. 17th) hosted the first ever combined Central Florida Brevard County Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate testing and promotions at our Boom Fitness location.

A total of around 70 Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate students showed up from our five schools in Cocoa Beach, Cocoa, Suntree, Vierra and Merritt Island to participate in workouts and testing from 10.30am through to 3pm.

Domo arigato to Hanshi Scaglione for overseeing the event and for his ongoing leadership and support, resulting in the growth of Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu karate in Central Florida and worldwide.

Arigato also to the black belts who attended and sat on the board of judges and assisted with the testing: Sensei David Tamir (Shihan Suntree); Sensei Kurt Tezel (Shihan Merritt Island) ; Sempai Carla Eddy (representing Cocoa in Shihan Ken Oscarson’s absence); Sensei Tom DuJardin (Chief Instructor, Cocoa Beach); Sensei Ron Marchetti; Sempai Connie Rutkowski; Sempai Joe Motro, Sempai Trevor Tezel and Sempai Carmelo Aleman (previously from New York's Midtown Dojo, now training in Central Florida).

Kudos also to all those who were not testing but showed up to support those that tested! Special kudos also to all the parents and family and friends that showed up to support those that tested!

A total of 46 students tested and were promoted, 19 from Cocoa Beach, 11 from Suntree, 9 from Cocoa; and 7 from Merritt Island. The following students were tested and promoted (schools in parentheses – CB = Cocoa Beach; MI = Merritt Island).

A reminder to all that commencing this Thursday there will be a special karate weekend seminar highlighted by Hanshi's Seminar on Saturday -- view schedule online at www.suntreekarate.com (under "News" section). Cocoa Beach students are all encouraged to attend the Friday 6pm workout at out Boom Location at 6pm and of course, the Saturday Seminar conducted by Hanshi in Vierra.

Also Cocoa Beach students, please note: there will be no 6pm class on Monday (Feb. 18th) due to the Presidents Day holiday. All students should make a plan to attend this weeks Wednesday 6pm and Friday 6pm and Saturday seminar.
