Feb., 19, 20, 2005 Weekend of Karate Training and Testing in Florida

Shihan Ken Oscarson’s Cocoa YMCA Dojo of Florida conducted testing yesterday (Saturday) morning, led by Hanshi Scaglione, Sensei Oscarson, Sensei Tamir, and Sensei Chaskelson. Eliot Clarke, visiting Nidan from England (originally from Israel’s Eilat dojo), also served on the board of judges. Black Belts Kashe and Kennar Oscarson also assisted with the testing.

One dozen deshi (adults and children) tested for ranks ranging from one green tip to one brown tip. All tested successfully…a job well done! A group photo was taken after the test and is attached to this e-mail. Also you may see additional photos at the new web site for Cocoa YMCA dojo at http://www.cocoadojo.com./index.html and at the web site for Cocoa Beach Dojo at http://www.cocoabeachkarate.com/index.html

Today (Sunday), Hanshi led a special Black Belts review and test for both the Cocoa YMCA and Cocoa Beach Dojo[s] combined. Almost 5 hours were spent on the deck training at the Cocoa Beach Dojo. Special emphasis was placed by Hanshi on covering the lower side-abdomen using the reverse arm, just before the low block is executed. Hanshi emphasized this in all our kata[s] today. He had us exaggerate this coverage by touching the belt with the fist of our reverse arm. Last but not least, congratulations to Mr. Joe Motro of the Cocoa YMCA Dojo, who was tested and promoted to Shodan at this special workout. Today was filled with so much Joy and Vigor, that the Florida dojo[s] will start conducting a combined Black Belts workout on the last Sunday of every month. All Black Belts are invited to attend.

This coming Tuesday, Shihan Chaskelson’s Cocoa Beach Dojo will be testing its deshi. All are invited to attend.
