June 11 2005 -- "Beach Workout

In spite of Tropical Storm Arlene, the Uehsiro Shorin-Ryu Cocoa Beach karate school went ahead with the “beach” workout today as planned. Due to the storm, the “beach” workout was held indoors at the Cocoa Beach Recreation Center. Twenty seven “die-hard” karateka demonstrated great spirit by showing up, in spite of the storm, and participating in a strenuous two and a half hour workout led by Hanshi Scaglione. Arigato Hanshi!

Photos of the group are attached here and also appear online .

The workout was followed by a banquet feast hosted by Elaine and Paul Netterstrom, who graciously opened up their riverfront home to us, complete with swimming pool and waterslide. A feast of all types of Japanese dishes as well as traditional barbeque was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Elaine and Paul for their hospitality!

Kudos the following students for attending the workout:

Mr. Kurt Tezel, Ni-Dan; Ms. Connie Rutkowski, SHo-Dan; Mr. Joe Motro, Sho-Dan; Michael Motro, Ik-ku; Sheila Gagne, San-Kyu; Julio Cabellero, San-kyu; Josh DiGulla; San-kyu; Michael Zen Moffet, Yon-kyu; Megan DiGulla, Yon-kyu; Clay Tezel, Yon-Kyu; Go-kyu’s: Meghan Tezel, Danny Parket, Wader Parker; Ro-kyu’s: Elaine, Kollie, Michael, and Seth Netterstrom, and white belts: Aaron Netterstrom (green stripe), Wendy Mizerek-Herrburger, Sarah Parker, Victoria Cabellero; Brett Cohen; and Trey Arnold.

For those of you who were unable to attend, try to make the next one -- we will be planning another beach workout later this year.
