May 12, 2009: Self Defense Seminar for St Jude Children's Hospital

About 35 students and guests showed up with “big spirit” at the Cocoa Beach Ueshiro Karate School CBH&F location tonight to participate in an Assault Prevention & Self Defense Seminar fundraiser for the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arigato to black belts from Cocoa YMCA Dojo for showing up and assisting: Sensei Ron Marchetti, Sempai Carla Eddy, Sempai Pat Marchetti. Arigato also to Kathleen LeMuire, Ik-kyu from Cocoa YMCA and David Laderwarg, San-Kyu from Suntree YMCA for showing up and participating.

Arigato to Jean Chipmam, Ik-kyu for stepping up to assist with the administration and coordination of all the funds raised in our events and getting the forms prepared for submission to St Jude’s. Arigato also to Janet Jochum, Yon-kyu, for creating and printing all of the flyers and brochures for the events and for assisting with registration.

Arigato to the following deshi who showed up to support the event -- remember, it is mandatory for testing eligibility to show up for at least one of the three events this week: Jeff, Tomberlin, Jordan Tomberlin, Kelly Dunn, Logan Clifton, Stu Warren, Peter DeBenedet, William DeBenedet, Helena Denemark, Jeremy Wells, Jeff Wells, Wade Parker, Sarah Parker, Alec Diamond, Kaemon Ruguiere, Nicholas Davidson, Alex Henry, Cory Boyer.

Arigato also to our guests who showed up to participate in the seminar: Tyler Guttwein, Andrea Davidson, Amanda Guttwein, Jesse Warren, John Rice, Patrick Glynn, Jacob Cuter, Linda Geiger, Marian Tomberlin, Katie Brewer, Bob Henry.

The events continue with another self defense seminar tomorrow night (Wed May 13th) at the Cocoa Beach Recreation Center (321 Ramp Road between South 5th Street and South 6th Street, off A1A) at 6pm, and then on Friday May 15th , back to the CBH&F (1355 North Atlantic Avenue / A1A, opposite the Holiday Inn) for the kata-thon. Make sure to bring your sponsor envelopes and donation – deadline is this Friday!

Again, domo arigato to all of our participants so far, including Hanshi’s Viera Dojo, as well as all of those that donated from schools around the USA as well as from as far as Hong Kong. We have about $3,200 already collected in checks with some pledges and all of the kata-thon donations still to come! Great work, big spirit and many thanks to everyone who participated. A full list of donors will be published after all donations are received this Friday.
