May 15, 2009: Kata-thon for St Jude's Kids Draws Big Crowd

Forty five Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate deshi from Brevard county karate schools showed up tonight at the Cocoa Beach Dojo’s CBH&F location to participate in a kata-thon as part of the fundraising events for the St Jude Children’s Hospital.

We thank Hanshi Scaglione for his tireless leadership and support and for showing up tonight!

    Arigato to Sharon Delgado, for the great job of registering everyone, and keeping track of kata and donations!

    If you did not bring your donation in tonight we need it by Tuesday May 19th – those of you that said you would bring it in, please make sure to do so by then. Arigato to everyone that has donated and raised donations from sponsors. Our initial goal was to raise at least $1,000 – we have collected in excess of $4,000 for the St Jude Kids! Domo arigato to everyone who donated. A full list of donors will be published after all donations are in next week and submitted to St Jude’s.

    The kata-thon commenced at 5.30pm and those that stayed to complete the full marathon of 100 kata ended up at 8.45pm.

    Congratulations to all those deshi who completed the half-marathon of 50 kata! Deshi worked their kata from F-1 all the way up to their highest kata including all kata in our system up to Kusanku.

    The following 24 deshi completed the full kata-thon of 100 kata, over 3 hours of kata:
