Shorin-Ryu Summit: Nov 19 & 20, 2005

Hanshi Scaglione, head of Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate USA, was one of the three leaders of the first ever Shorin-Ryu Karate Summit, held in Clemmons North Carolina this past weekend. The event was co-led by Kyoshi Doug Perry, a senior student of Shugoro Nakazato of Shorin Kan Shorin-Ryu, and Kyoshi Bill Hayes, a senior student of Eizo Shimabuku of Shobayashi-Ryu.

The event was attended by close to forty high level students of Shorin-Ryu Karate and included an all day session on Saturday, with each of the three leaders conducting sessions on kata, kobudo (weapons), anatomy and pressure points, health and wellness, followed by three concurrent seminars on Sunday morning. It was a fantastic opportunity and great honor to be in the presence of these esteemed seminar leaders and for all to exchange ideas and to learn from each other.

Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate USA was represented by Hanshi Scaglione and the following USRKUSA students: Sensei Michael Mackay, Roku-Dan and Chief Instructor, NYC Hombu Dojo, Sensei David Tamir, Go-Dan and Co-Shihan Cocoa YMCA Dojo, Sensei Des Chaskelson, Yon-Dan and Shihan Cocoa Beach Dojo, Elliot Potter, Ni-Dan, Pallisades NY Dojo and Rob Neff, Ni-Dan, NYC Dojo.
