Sensei Kurt Tezel, Shihan Ueshiro Merritt Island Karate, San Dan (3rd degree black belt) -- Visiting Instructor at Cocoa Beach
Sensei Kurt Tezel, San-Dan (3rd degree black belt) began his training in Shorin-Ryu karate in 1999. Sensei Tezel's karate school operates at Tropical Elementary School located on Merritt Island. Sensei Tezel is self-employed as a commercial real estate investor. He and his wife have four children all of whom participate in karate. Sensei Tezel is a practitioner of the Sai (three pronged ancient sword-blocking weapon).
Ms. Connie Rutkowski, Ni Dan (2nd degree black belt)
Ms. Rutkowski began her training at the Merrit Island Dojo and transferred over to Cocoa Beach Dojo in 2003. She was awared her Sho dan in December 2003 and her Ni-Dan in February 2006. Sempai Rutkowski trains kobudo using the bo.
Mr. Joe Motro, Sho Dan (1st degree black belt)
Mr. Motro also began training at the Merrit Island Dojo and transferred over to Cocoa Beach Dojo in 2003. He was awared his Sho dan in February 2005. Sempai Motro trains kobudo using the bo.
Mr. Trevor Tezel, Sho Dan (1st degree black belt)
Trevor is our youngest black belt, having been promoted to the rank of sho-dan (1st degree black belt) at the age of 12 in March of 2006. Sempai Trevor assists in the karate training of our younger students. Sempai Trevor also trains using the bo.
