Cocoa Beach Karate School teaches safe, traditional and authentic Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-Ryu) Karate-Do at two locations for students of all ages.

Founded in 2002 by WMKA 5th degree black belt, Sensei Des Chaskelson, the school is a full member of the World Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-Ryu) Karate-Do Association (WMKA) in Naha, Okinawa, with branches throughout the world.

Some of the many benefits of karate training: self-defense, assault prevention, physical fitness, focus, discipline, diligence, commitment, courtesy, respect, self-esteem, fun and more.

We welcome beginners, kids, teens and adults, and families — we were all beginners once!

We have a special kids program (ages 4-7) and classes for older kids, teens and adults. We welcome families and offer special family discounts.

Sensei Chaskelson began his karate training in 1987 in New York City with the Ansei Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu group and trained there until moving to Cocoa Beach, Fl in 2002, when he founded Cocoa Beach Karate School. He was awarded his WMKA 5th degree black belt by Soke Takayoshi Nagamine in Naha, Okinawa, in 2010 at the 75th Anniversary of Matsubayashi-Ryu, the style founded by Soke’s father, O’Sensei Shoshin Nagamine, widely considered to be one of the fathers of modern day karate.

Cocoa Beach Karate also has several other WMKA black belts who assist with training:

  • Sensei Tom DuJardin, 4th degree
  • Joe Motro – 2nd Degree
  • Michael Motro – 1st Degree
  • Jeanne Chipman – 1st Degree

I’m looking to put my dog in a triainng class, I emailed a local company if they have any current classes that my pup can join and this is what they replied: we offer group classes only after your dog completes a in home triainng course, we have a 4 week in home puppy kindergarten followed by a monthly group class for the rest of his life. The cost is $495, let me know if you would like to set up a free in home triainng evaluation so I can meet your dog, fill out a brief questionnaire and explain the triainng process. That sounds like a good plan but after the 4 weeks it’s once a month group? Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I just go with the traditional classes of meeting once a week for 6 weeks?+my dog is a Cairn Terrier 15 weeks+That’s another thing that was keeping me from signing up for this I really want the classes for socialization and in-home doesn’t offer that!
